Creating the Standards

Creating the Standards (CTS) is a multi-media standards based art program with both an in school and after school component. I am the founder and lead teacher for the program. I hold a credential in both art and elementary education with 17 years teaching experience, 9 of which were here at Village View. During Village View's in school program, I present 6 assemblies that connect art to various state teaching standards within the core curriculum. The students are learning about master artists and art from a variety of cultures in addition to a wide range of styles and art vocabulary. In their classrooms, students are then able to review artist's works and follow step by step directions via in class Smart boards and our CTS website. Through the year, they are creating works made from a range of media; material, oil pastel, acrylic and watercolor paints, wood etc. After attending a workshop, we are so fortunate to have the dedicated and adventurous PTA parents assist teachers and students in creating within the classrooms. 

In the afternoon we hold ART CAMP which offers more "funky and fun" projects that can really showcase children's creativity. It is followed each session by a gallery night for friends and family to attend.  For more details, visit www.creatingthestandards.com.
